Monkey always wins

My good friend and spectacular artist, David Scott Smith, has started his own blog and you should check it out. It's new so there's not a lot of content yet, but I know there will continue to be great things posted. Dave and I work together at Disneyland, in the sense that we both do the same thing, though in truth, we are rarely there at the same time- there's only one desk. Even still, I have learned so much from Dave. I've asked him a lot about his painting process, his influences and he's always full of insight. In honor of his blog, Monkey Always Wins, I now present my own quick Monkey sketch:

Drawergeeks: Troll

It was another fun subject for Drawergeeks this week. Here's my entry for "Troll"...

I'm glad there aren't any bridges near my house. Oh wait, I think there are... this is why I avoid the out of doors. Check out the other entries here.

Witch sketch

This is a very rough sketch of a character I'm developing. I'm really looking forward to coloring her when I have some spare time.

Drawergeeks: Candyland

Just some sketches for this weeks Drawergeeks. I know I say this every week but I really didn't have any time to work on this. Not only that, I couldn't think of much that seemed interesting about the subject. After a shift at Disneyland that ended at 12:30 AM I came home fully intending to let this subject go by. But I figured even if it was just a pencil sketch I'd try to submit something, and lo and behold I got two sketches done.

You can view the other submissions here.

A game of cat & mouse

This is a sketch for an illustration I'm planning, once I have a free moment.

Marker sketch

I did this several years ago and just came across it in an old sketchbook. I don't even remember if the subject was a guy or gal, but I would suspect a guy, probably in one of my figure drawing classes. I don't know why, but something about this drawing appeals to me- probably the 2 subtle shades of grey but lack of any real black.

Pretty faces

Ok, maybe "pretty" is stretching it, but cute, how about cute? I really was just trying to break out of my habit of always using the same face for a pretty girl. It's pretty much always the Disney formula. These aren't too far from that and I'll probably do some more extreme versions later.

Buck Beaver: Spaceman!

This was an odd doodle that I did while I was trying to come up with an animal for "B" as part of my alphabet series.
