23 Days of Halloween: Day 7- Demon
...and his little robot friend.
I came up with this strange pair with the help of a great site, Pickle Kitty's Character Design Randomizer! This site will give you a different combination of character attributes each time you visit and really helps people like me who tend to doodle the same things over and over again. The prompts I got for this one were
Body Type: Short, built
Clothing: Leather Armor
Head Type: Demonic
Weapon/Accesory: Familiar, Robot

23 Days of Halloween: Day 2- Ghost Acrobat
In preparing a bunch of drawings for this month of Halloween sketches, I started thinking about Marc Davis' countless drawings of ghosts for Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. So many of his ghosts were really just people going about their daily lives, after they'd died! I thought I'd come up with some ghosts, enjoying their chosen professions in the afterlife. I started alphabetically. So here's a Ghost Acrobat.

23 Days of Halloween: Day 1- Ghost Frog
I do not like frogs- slimy unpredictable little creatures. They've always creeped me out. But even worse than a frog, is a ghost frog.

Ron Moody as Fagin
I was probably about 10 years old when my parents showed my brothers and me the movie "Oliver", based on the stage musical, based on the Dickens novel. I remember Ron Moody who played Fagin to be really creepy. Something about his dark sunken eyes, whispy hair and diminished mouth made him seem so effectively sinister. I listen to the soundtrack once in a while and it prompted me to google some photos of him to test out my brush pen (which was very new to me when I did these several months ago).

Louis
I follow the amazing artist, Erin Hunting on Instagram and aside from her great artwork, she posts a lot of pictures of her cat. He doesn't seem to do anything but stare a the camera, but nonetheless something about him was intriguing.

Back to school
Several weeks ago, I saw Monsters University, and what really stood out to me was how they took the very simple appealing designs of Monsters Inc and just subtly "plussed" everything with interesting textures. It made me enjoy the sequel on a whole other level- visually it was very engrossing.
The next day I felt like doodling some Monster students. These aren't from the film, of course, though some did start to stray close to familiar characters and I had to make drastic changes as the drawing progressed. I hate when that happens!

Yellow Dragon
I haven't had much time for any of my own artwork lately- thankfully I'm very busy with freelance projects. However I saw Monsters University tonight and seeing all the fun characters made me want to doodle the night away on my Yiynova tablet monitor. I decided to take one of the many monster-ish drawings I've done previously and color it. In fact I modified it a bit before delving into color. You might remember this little guy:
Well I had labeled him "Yellow Dragon" when I first saved the image. I think that was because I wanted to remind myself if I ever colored him that he should NOT be red like Mushu from Mulan. Well here's how he turned out:
Definitely a different type of character from the initial sketch, but that's how it works out sometimes.
