Rabbits!

Easter got me in the mood to draw some rabbits. I just drew one or two at first, but with rabbits, well, you know what happens...

What frustrates me is when students lose track of how many different ways there are to draw something...even something that has been done a million times by other artists...nice stuff...added you to my blogroll...not sure why I hadn't sooner...will be showing your stuff to students and having that discussion, as well as 'drawing through'...not that I haven't had that discussion before lol...

I know I am constantly struggling to break away from a familiar way that I've seen something interpreted before. Often I'll try to draw an animal only to realize that my only point of reference are other artists cartoons of these animals. I guess that's when drawing from life really helps. Trying different styles is something that's really difficult for me too. For one thing, it's hard to force yourself out of your comfort zone. We all know what style we are good at and to concsiously step away from it and try a style that isn't as likely to produce pleasing results is tough. A lot of the rabbits in this post are nothing I would post on their own, but I do kind like how they add to the variety of the ones that are presentable. One thing that helps me is to think of the different mediums I use. Even though all of these were done with a simple black pen, there were some that I tried to imagine I would eventually paint, perhaps without any line at all- that tends to help me think more graphically, less about the line and detail.

Awesome work. The fat rabbit at the bottom is hilarious. I am looking for inspiration to do Amigurumi designs. I wish I could draw!
